Worldwide, companies have been forced to send their employees to work from home due to lockdowns or restricted travel possibilities. As virtual teams are on the rise, the number of tools and software that cater to the new working requirements has also increased. Here is our list of practical software tools to support remote work.

 

7 software tools for remote work


1) Google Meet

With Google Meet you can start a video conference directly in the browser. Even without a Google account, you can still join the meeting upon invitation, either directly via the web or via the mobile app.

What is exciting about Google's approach is that Google Meet uses algorithms to automatically improve the image in low light conditions and filter disturbing background noises. An additional plus is the smooth integration of all G Suite tools.
 

2) Google Drive

Google Drive lets you collaborate on MS Office files with other team members in real time. You can also store and share documents, spreadsheets, or presentations with your team. Just like Google Meet, it also integrates perfectly with all G Suite programs. With Google Meet you can start a video conference directly in the browser. 3) Slack

Collaboration in a nutshell – Slack offers various features like real-time messaging, file sharing, voice calls, and screen sharing. The tool is well-liked by remote workers since it is easy to operate. It offers additional features, which help organize communication and file sharing:

  • Different channels can be categorized by topic, team, or project
  • Integration with other tools such as Google drive or Dropbox
  • Searchable archives for messages and files


4) Miro

When it comes to brainstorming, agile project management, or strategic planning, a whiteboard can be very helpful when working in teams or project groups.
With Miro, teams get an online whiteboard and together they can contemplate ideas.

With this tool, you can create a collaborative whiteboard with drawings, virtual post-its, shapes, and arrows to share with colleagues so you can work simultaneously on your project.


5) Asana

Managing a team remotely can be tricky, but there is software to assist you: Asana is a task and project management software for teams. With Asana you can assign tasks to individual team members or a group of team members. As Asana provides a very accessible design, it is easy to mark certain tasks as top priority. This will alert your team that there are items in need of instant attention.


6) Todoist

Todoist is a comprehensive tool for creating and managing tasks and projects.

The tool gives you a clearly arranged overview of upcoming tasks. Adding new entries is also very easy. Additional features like setting a due date, reminders, file attachments, and subtasks are an extra plus.

Once you define the importance of a task, Todoist makes sure that your task is processed with the correct priority. You can also create a link to a task and share it with your contacts. For complex tasks, you can even use an audio recording explaining the task. There is also a graphical overview of your completed tasks over the last seven days to help track your own productivity.


7) Diagrams

Diagrams.net is a free online diagramming software. It can be used as a flowchart maker or to design database schemes and more. The tool can be integrated into various platforms and files can be saved to Google Drive, OneDrive, GitHub, GitLab, Dropbox, or your local device. With the application diagrams.net desktop you can also create diagrams offline, e.g. when the internet connection is disrupted.
