Fieldcode identifies the operational costs frequently missing from FSM software business cases

July 20, 2026

Fieldcode, a provider of field service management software, is highlighting the operational costs that service organizations may overlook when evaluating an FSM software investment.

Software comparisons often focus on license fees, implementation costs, and feature lists. While these factors show the visible cost of introducing a new system, they do not fully reflect the ongoing cost of maintaining manual or disconnected service processes.

Manual scheduling and rescheduling, dispatcher workload, avoidable travel, overtime, repeated customer communication, administrative handling, repeat visits and unused technician capacity can all influence the financial case for change.

License-price comparisons can therefore provide an incomplete view. A lower software fee does not necessarily result in a lower overall cost when implementation requirements, integrations and the expected effect on daily service operations are considered.

“License costs are easy to compare, while the cost of manual coordination is often distributed across different activities and departments,” said Matthias Lübko, CEO of Fieldcode. “A useful FSM software business case should compare the full investment with the operational work and costs the organization expects to reduce.”

The timing of the expected savings also matters. Two organizations may project similar annual savings but have different payback periods because of their onboarding, configuration, or integration requirements.

Fieldcode’s FSM ROI calculator supports this assessment by using operational inputs such as technician count, jobs completed per technician, average job duration, dispatch and administrative time, labor cost, integration requirements and required software capabilities.

Based on this information, the calculator provides a recommended Fieldcode package, estimated investment, annual savings in Year 1, recurring annual savings from Year 2 onward and an estimated ROI period in months.

The calculation provides an initial estimate based on the operational information and requirements entered. By presenting investment, annual savings and payback timing together, the calculator gives operations and finance teams a more structured basis for comparing the cost of change with the cost of maintaining current processes.
